About Mental Fulfillment and AWALA
Mental Fulfillment is an early-stage, purpose-driven artificial intelligence software company being built in Germany. Our first product, AWALA, is a voice-first AI wellbeing assistant designed to support adults through short, structured sessions that help them pause, reconnect with themselves, gain clarity and identify a constructive next step.
AWALA is not intended to provide therapy, diagnoses or emergency support. We are committed to responsible artificial intelligence, psychological safety, privacy, human dignity and clear product boundaries.
Our broader vision is to contribute to a more conscious and compassionate world—one in which people are better able to care for themselves, other people, animals and nature.
The role
We are looking for a senior hands-on product engineer who can turn approved architecture and product specifications into complete, usable vertical product slices.
You will work across frontend, backend, application programming interfaces, databases, artificial intelligence integrations, state transitions, testing and production instrumentation.
This is not a Chief Technology Officer, co-founder or purely architectural position. You will implement and deliver within documented architecture, product boundaries and release gates.
You will work closely with the Lead AI Systems Architect, the Founder/Product Lead and specialists in Business Systems, Privacy, Safety and Conversation Design.
What you will build
- Complete end-to-end product features from user interface to backend and database
- Robust application programming interfaces and integration layers
- Explicit session and workflow states, including interruption, recovery and failure handling
- Large language model and agent workflows using structured outputs and controlled tool access
- Human-review and approval mechanisms where consequential actions require oversight
- Automated component, integration, state-transition and regression tests
- Evaluation baselines for model behaviour, routing and product quality
- Logging, tracing, error monitoring, latency measurement and cost monitoring
- Secure handling of sensitive data with data minimisation and clear retention boundaries
- Deployment pipelines, reproducible development environments and maintainable handover materials
Role boundaries and collaboration
Your primary product responsibility will be AWALA’s separately governed text and voice runtime.
You may contribute reusable approval, audit or orchestration components to the internal company platform where explicitly agreed. The Business Systems & Automation Engineer remains responsible for internal document orchestration and company-process automation. The Lead AI Systems Architect defines and validates architecture, system boundaries, security boundaries, technical contracts and release gates.
Initial delivery sequence
- Establish a reliable development environment, deployment path, test baseline and operating instrumentation
- Implement the first approved AWALA text-based vertical slice from user interaction through state handling, model integration and evaluation
- Add carefully controlled tool or agent workflows where they provide measurable product value
- Develop the first voice-enabled slice once architecture, privacy and safety release gates are satisfied
- Improve latency, reliability, user experience and cost based on measured results
Initial 90-day outcomes
- A functioning end-to-end AWALA product slice with frontend, backend, database, model integration and explicit state management
- Automated tests, evaluation baselines, continuous integration and continuous delivery, logging, tracing and cost measurement
- A documented and reproducible development environment that another engineer can operate
- A first voice-enabled slice if the approved minimum-viable-product scope, safety requirements and available capacity permit it
- Clear documentation of technical risks, remaining release gates and the next delivery priorities
What we are looking for
Experience with realtime voice, Web Real-Time Communication, speech recognition, voice-activity detection, text-to-speech, interruption handling or audio-quality measurement is a strong advantage, but not required for the first text-based product slice.
- At least four years of substantial production full-stack software-engineering experience
- Strong practical experience with TypeScript, React and Python or a comparable production stack
- Experience with relational databases, application programming interfaces, cloud infrastructure and deployment
- Evidence of delivering complete features across frontend, backend, data and operations
- Practical experience building large language model applications, tool workflows or agentic systems
- Experience with structured model outputs, automated testing and production monitoring
- Strong understanding of maintainable state management and failure handling
- Responsible handling of confidential or sensitive information
- Pragmatic minimum-viable-product discipline, clear technical documentation and a transferable working style
- Strong collaboration skills in a remote, interdisciplinary team and genuine mission alignment
The early-stage and funding reality
Mental Fulfillment is currently in its pre-funding phase. A market-rate permanent full-time salary is not yet secured.
Depending on available budget and mutual fit, an initial engagement may take the form of a clearly scoped paid project or a paid fractional contract. A later employment relationship may become possible after financing, but it is not promised.
This is not an unpaid volunteer role. We will not request operational work without a written and appropriately compensated agreement. Future funding, employment, salary, equity or a particular start date must not be assumed.
You should consciously want to work in an early-stage environment with limited resources, evolving priorities and incomplete systems.
Working with us
- 100% remote and applications welcome worldwide
- Regular agreed overlap with Central European working hours
- Close collaboration with the Lead AI Systems Architect and Founder/Product Lead
- Significant hands-on product responsibility
- Long-term perspective if financing, performance and mutual fit allow it
How to apply
Apply directly through the form below in English or German. Please provide a current profile or CV link, relevant evidence, availability and compensation expectations. We do not require a particular degree or conventional career path.
Different backgrounds and perspectives are welcome. What matters most is demonstrated ability, responsible judgment, honest communication and alignment with our mission.
